Pin It with Pinterest

Have you ever wanted to create a vision board for your wedding? With Pinterest, you can! Users can create boards to plan their wedding or save ideas for their future home. Besides going on the app to change my boards when my interests change, I don’t use Pinterest for anything else. I am no Pinterest expert since my time on the app is about once a month. However, there are many ways to use Pinterest to your benefit!

Pinterest was founded by three college friends to create a space for people to be creative and show off collections of what they’re interested in. Today, people know Pinterest as a place to create digital pinboards. With more than 537 million monthly users, Pinterest is the 13th most used social media platform.

To my surprise, the largest age group of users is college-aged students. I would’ve guessed the age to be slightly higher because of younger moms using Pinterest to find things such as recipes. What wasn’t a surprise was the number of women who use Pinterest over men. In my opinion, it really isn’t an app that I feel men would enjoy. One fact I want to point out is the best times to post on Pinterest. This time is Tuesday through Friday at 1 a.m.

Pinterest works through pins and boards. On the home feed are pins and boards that are saved by people who the user follows. Pins are specific posts that include images and videos. Users can save these to a specific board that they are creating. For example, if I’m creating a board for my future wedding and see a ring design I like, I can pin it to the board. All pins live on a board. Boards are created as a place to cluster related ideas. Some people may create boards to pin recipes, fashion ideas and more.

With the assignment we had to do in class, we learned how to create a board, collaborate and find useful pins to fill the board relating to social media measurements. While I knew how to create a board and pin images, I learned how to collaborate with someone.

Overall, Pinterest can be a fun way for people to express creativity and share their ideas with friends!

  1. I like how you explained Pinterest in a really simple and relatable way, especially with the wedding board example. The point about college students being the biggest user group was interesting too, since I would’ve assumed it was older users.
