A Weekend Away
Personally, I consider the weekend to start as soon as classes are over on Fridays. For this weekend, it started Friday at 9 a.m. because of an away track meet in Indiana! Due to the time that the meet started, it meant missing all my Friday classes. My events for the day were the 60-meter hurdles and pole vault. Unfortunately, the hurdles were the worst they've ever been. The biggest thing I learned from the experience was that sometimes you can't always PR and have a good run every time. I tried to look ahead to pole vault and regroup. For the past 2 weeks, I had a mental battle with pole vault and was finally able to work past it in warmups. I was pole vaulting the best I had in weeks and was anxious for the competition to start. I ended up clearing my first 3 bars on my first attempt which meant a new collegiate PR! I was happy to finally have my confidence back. Thankfully, it didn't end there. I ended up winning the event which was my first time for college! Eventually, the meet ended and we were able to go home! The next morning, I
woke up at 9 a.m. to drive home. I needed to go home to pack for spring break
as crazy as it sounds. This was the only weekend before break where I could go home
both Saturday and Sunday because of the track schedule. Once I got home, I
lifted quickly before going over to my grandma’s. When I was growing up, we always
made homemade pizzas at her house, so I requested that we do it while I was home.
It is safe to say it hit the spot! Once lunch was done, my family and I went to
church. Following that, we went out to dinner at Applebee’s! We then headed
over to my uncle’s house for card games. Once I got back home, I began packing what
I could for spring break.
Sunday morning came around and I had breakfast with my
family before leaving during lunch. Overall, it was so nice being able to go
home and enjoy the presence of my family. It gave me a little reset and now I
just have to survive 4 more weeks until spring break!
Hi Danika! Wow that sounds like a busy but eventful weekend. I am happy to hear that you were able to recover during your track meet! I totally understand what it is like to struggle mentally in a sport but could not imagine how difficult it must be in a sport like track. It is so awesome to see that you won the event as well! Weekends home are always a good refresh and I think it was perfect to do that as it was your only available weekend. Good luck with the rest of your track meets this season!
ReplyDeleteWow, Danika, that is definitely one busy weekend! Congrats on getting through that mental block! I feel like a lot of times the mental game can be the worst competition, not always the other team, as funny as that sounds. So great job on being able to get through that!
ReplyDeleteHey Danika! This seems like a very busy weekend. I can for sure relate with struggling mentally during a sport and I am glad you were able to overcome that! Also, I am glad you got to spend time with your family before having to come back!! It is always nice to see your loved ones. Good luck with the rest of your meets and I hope you have a good rest of your week!!
ReplyDeleteHi Danika, your weekend was packed! From track meets and going home, it had to go by fast. I can't even believe spring break is right around the corner. This semester is going by fast. Good luck the rest of the season and keep battling!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like you had an incredibly busy weekend. I'm sure track is a very mental battle and I'm so happy you pushed through hurdles and did so well in pole vault. I can't believe spring break is so soon! I'm not excited for our marketing final. Congratulations again on a new PR!
