The World of Social Media Marketing
As the second semester of my freshman year begins, a class
titled principles of social media is on the schedule! While I was originally
not supposed to be in this class, I believe it will be fun, and I will share
some important notes along the way! Each week we are asked to look over the
upcoming chapter and compose a critical analysis of reading blog over a
specific part we may find interesting or what to focus on. For chapter one, I
will dive into social media marketing!
As a marketing and sport management student with a minor in
social media, this section of the chapter spoke to me the most. I have recently
found a passion for marketing in social media, especially if it involves
sports. Being able to combine my interests of marketing and social media is
something I am all for. It was really cool to be able to read about this topic
and understand how brands could do better.
In terms of social media marketing, businesses must develop
a strategy. If a particular business can’t accomplish that, they are
essentially sailing without a compass. What I found unique was that this is
even a problem. You would think that brands and companies would talk about
these strategies prior to launching social media efforts. If I was a higher up
at a company, this is the first thing that I would do. A lot of what social
media marketing does is being able to create contact that people want to
interact with. The more a brand can create content that is engaging, the more
people will pay attention to it and even get excited about it. Wouldn’t you be
more likely to purchase a product by a brand who markets it well on to their
consumers on social media? I sure would! What I think is also worth noting is
the percentage of marketers who believe social media boosts brand visibility.
Ninety three percent is quite a high number, but it’s so true!
While social media marketing is such a positive tool for
brands to increase their brand awareness, if they aren’t taking the time to
learn about the platform they will be using and trends, it’s going to fall
short of what they hoped.
The reality is, this section of the chapter stood out to me
and gave me helpful insight that I could apply to real world situations as
someone pursuing a career in this area. Hopefully you learn something new as
well that you can take with you!

I really enjoyed your post! I agree that having a clear strategy is key. Without it, social media efforts can fall flat. I also like how you highlighted creating engaging content and understanding platforms. That is definitely something that makes a brand stand out. Your insights connect well to real-world marketing, especially in sports.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post, it gave me a new perspective! I never could have imagined the impact social media has on sports, and I think that it's really cool that it interests you! I agree that we should take time to learn about the platforms we have access to.
